A Pig's Tale: Pig Named 6-7 Granted Clemency by Miami-Dade Mayor.
While perhaps not at the same level as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the Miami-Dade County mayor had her own Donald Trump moment this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the center of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This pig is innocent. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the beginning of a current administration.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” she went on. “Let this swine have a lengthy and joyful existence without fear.”
This ceremony, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, provided by a local firefighter, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people yelling “six seven” – deriving from a rap song lyric – often for no discernable reason. The phrase became so pervasive that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.
A Peaceful Retirement
Six Seven the pig is now set to enjoy its days at a countryside refuge “away from grills and cookware”, according to the organizers' announcement.
“The pig pardon has become a cherished method to kick off the holiday season,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.
“It captures the character of Miami: happy, varied, and based in heritage that bring people together. Annually, we are honored to observe heritage and mercy in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach croquetas and Cuban coffee as they toasted the swine's new lease on life.
