HBO's It Spinoff Debuts Next Sooner Than Planned on the Streaming Platform

Fans are eagerly awaiting for the Stephen King adaptation Welcome to Derry, already receiving positive feedback and weaving in references from other Stephen King works. Now, HBO announced that the next chapter will arrive early, released fittingly for Halloween.

Early Release Information

Beginning on October 31 at midnight PT, the next part of Welcome to Derry will premiere on HBO Max, before its Sunday HBO premiere. Future chapters of the eight-episode season will continue to air on Sundays on HBO and HBO Max, leading up to the concluding chapter on Sunday, December 14.

Show Background

Set in the world of King's It, the new series borrows elements from King’s iconic novel while enlarging the setting realized by director Andy Muschietti in the two It films. It Chapter One highlighted adolescents facing terrifying threats, thus it's suitable that this show upholds that legacy. However, the premiere episode of the streaming show demonstrates it set out to increase the tension, providing heightened horror than the cinematic versions and establishing a dark atmosphere for what's to come.

Story World and Concepts

Set in 1962, the series presents a new generation of adults and children residing in a apparently peaceful community masking a evil heart. Derry functions through a cruel, recurring cycle—defined by hostility, discrimination, and otherworldly forces, as a terrifying being returns each 27-year cycle. While It: Welcome to Derry might seem like it strays too near to the movies initially, what distinguishes the HBO Max series is its dual perspective—told from the eyes of both children and adults at the same time. The kids stay particularly vulnerable to the entity's fear, but the adults also face facing their own nightmares arising from the town's ingrained prejudice and hidden paranormal elements.

The series premieres on October 31 at 3 a.m. EST.
