Line of Duty Announced for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty will make a comeback for its seventh installment, announced by the BBC.
An upcoming six-part series created by the show's creator will begin filming in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the network.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the return, saying she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar added, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together next year."
The last season concluded in recent years with a final episode that drew in more than 17 million viewers. Speculation about a new season have been circulating ever since, but confirmation only arrived recently.
Fresh Obstacles for AC-12
The seventh season begins with AC-12 having been disbanded and renamed as the new police oversight body, as revealed by the announcement.
Steve Arnott, Kate Fleming, and Adrian Dunbar's part remain working to combat corruption within the police force.
Their work "has never been more difficult", and under these circumstances, the trio are assigned their "most sensitive case so far."
New Character and Complex Case
An additional officer, Det Insp Dominic Gough, portrayed as a charismatic officer celebrated for takedowns of organized crime, is accused of misusing his authority to become a offender.
However, this investigation might serve as a deliberate distraction from a bigger threat still operating in the shadows, plot details suggested.
In a statement, Jed Mercurio said: "All cast and crew are deeply thankful to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers track the ups and downs of AC-12 over multiple series and we couldn't be more delighted to be returning for a seventh installment."
He added: "Corruption in this country is supposed to have ended while Line of Duty was off air, so I've been forced to use my imagination."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston called appearing in the series as "a job of a lifetime".
"Not only the program's popularity but the colleagues I've collaborated with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to wear the uniform again and reunite with everyone," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress remarked: "Obviously I'm so excited Line of Duty is back! Eager to work with the creator, Compston and Dunbar again. Belfast, we'll see you soon!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "While anticipating the AC-12 return, what a joy it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming next year."
"Delighted with the announcement and looking forward to those unexpected twists and turns."
