Sam Fender won the honor recently in the North East

The artist has donated the complete sum of his £25k award winnings to the Music Venues Trust, which works to protect the United Kingdom's small music venues.

Fender was presented with the cheque on October 16 as his new release the album was named the top album of the past year.

He has decided to give the cash to the trust, in acknowledgment of the essential function local spots had in his initial steps.

"I personally couldn't be pursuing this success if it weren't for all the gigs I performed around the area, and further afield, when I was beginning," said Sam Fender. "These locations are legendary, but they are facing challenges."

Beginning in 2023, over 150 of these locations have permanently closed – roughly one-sixth of the whole industry in the UK.

Over the past year, well-known musicians such as Pulp, the group Coldplay, Katy Perry and Ed Sheeran have all backed the MVT in its attempts to help venues survive, by including a small levy to their ticket prices, which supports smaller concert halls.

Fender also took part, collecting over £100k on his recent tour to assist thirty-eight grassroots venues across the UK.

These funds helped venues that were dealing with potential shutdown due to issues arising from water damage, blazes and personal losses, as well as regulatory hurdles, conflicts and neighbor objections.

Other venues obtained monetary aid in modernizing amenities and gear that helped musicians and concertgoers.

"The notion that money from concerts in major spaces supports the smaller venues, where it kicks off for artists like me, is just logical," Sam Fender has commented.

He is far from the only musician to contribute his Mercury Prize winnings to good deeds.

Back when they received the trophy in the year 1996 for their release the album, vocalist the singer announced that the act would donate their cash to the charity the charity.

In 2002, rapper and singer the artist split her award between several good causes, like the NSPCC and a Sickle Cell charity.

"Additionally, I donated a £1,000 to Highgate Newtown, to their classes, because I trained in gymnastics when I was younger and they lacked better apparatus," Ms Dynamite explained to a publication.

Previously, the band gave their prize money to the youth organization that developed their act, alongside other local music groups.

Also winners that year M People gave their prize to a multiple sclerosis charity after a acquaintance was identified with the illness.

"Receiving the award was ample," remarked vocalist the singer. "The money was the bonus but we didn't require the bonus, because we had the cake. So our success touched another person's life."

In the past week, the trust shared it had saved several local spots in the South East, by bringing them into local control.

The first in that area and the second in the city were acquired under the public acquisition initiative, which is funded by the arts council and supporters who buy "shares" in the venues.
