The Mighty Nein's Introductory Sequence Selected the Wrong Critical Role Song
The Mighty Nein, the newest animated series by Critical Role, unveiled an exciting introductory sequence. It features our favorite group of outcasts, outcasts, and criminals kicking ass and taking names, while teasing at multiple heart-wrenching backstories for characters such as Liam O'Brien's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.
Overall, the intro looks amazing. However, I felt that something was lost in the song choice.
This sequence uses "Welcome to Wildemount", a truly stellar song created by producer and singer the talented musician. This piece from the official score of that title, the second release put out by the production company's music division Scanlan Shorthalt Music. It's a great nostalgic option, and I suspect that devotees of the second campaign will love its inclusion.
Personally, The Mighty Nein's intro doesn't quite capture the excitement and excitement that was part of the second campaign's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", written by musician the artist, was an instant classic in my view when it was initially unveiled in that year, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel added lyrics to the melody for the animated Campaign 2 opening in the later year.
Featuring vocals from Ashley Johnson, another performer, a co-star, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't seen the follow-up series at that point, but it was so infectious that I kept it on my device. This track that excites you before you start an episode of adventurous fun.
The show's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" fails to hit the right notes for me. It's a grand piece of music, but based on my understanding of the group, I feel that its tone is a little off.
Naturally, the creators has stated that the animated show will have a few changes and differences from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening appears as one of them.
The Mighty Nein will be released on Prime Video from Nov. 19. If you can't wait until then, or wish to prepare to learn about the personas of Critical Role's Campaign 2, the actual play are available on the audio platform and the video site.
