The Red Devils Set to Secure Germany Striker Lea Schüller from the Bavarian Giants

The Women's Super League club are finalising completing the signing for prolific German forward Lea Schüller in a permanent move from Bayern Munich.

A Marquee Acquisition for the WSL Side

The forward, with half a year remaining on her contract, has been a consistent goal-getter for her club and the national team. She has scored more than 100 goals for the German giants and scored 54 times in 82 appearances for her country. This signing is viewed as a marquee coup for the Women’s Super League side.

Her exit from Munich was expected after she appeared to be fighting back tears while applauding the club's supporters after a win over Bayer Leverkusen this month.

It was reported in December that the Frauen-Bundesliga was losing one of its top strikers. Per multiple sources, all the paperwork for the move are now finalised.

Consistent Goalscoring to Strengthen the Forward Line

The experienced striker's arrival is expected to provide a major uplift to United’s forward line. She has been highly reliable with her finishing in the Bundesliga.

  • Over seven straight seasons, up to and including the most recent campaign, she reached at least a double-digit tally of league goals.
  • She claimed the Golden Boot in the 2021-22 season with 16 goals.

Building Steam at Old Trafford

Securing the German international coincides with a period when the club appear to be gathering momentum.

Recent performances feature qualifying for the Champions League knockout phase playoffs in a seeded position and a victory in the League Cup quarter-finals.

In the transfer market, the mid-season window has seen further business:

  1. The signing of Sweden defender Hanna Lundkvist on a multi-year deal.
  2. The new deal for Japan midfielder Hinata Miyazawa, a fan favourite since arriving in 2023.

On the midfielder's new deal, a club official stated: “She has become a critical component to the way we play. Her understanding of the game and technical ability enables her and the team to control and dictate play from the middle of the park.”

Lundkvist, who has arrived from a side from the NWSL, said: “You can feel how much the club have grown in the last few years, playing in one of the strongest leagues in the world and now featuring in the top European competition.”
