Toronto Blue Jays Earn Fall Classic Matchup With Los Angeles Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Astros winning the World Series in 2017.
Canada's MLB team earned a spot in their initial Fall Classic following the 1993 season by overcoming the Mariners in the final Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Down three runs to one, outfielder George Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh frame, leading the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the series. They will now face the Dodgers, holders of the current crown, in the forthcoming Fall Classic.
"It's incredible for this squad, Toronto, our country," commented Springer, a key player of the Astros team that claimed the 2017 championship. "What an amazing experience."
George Springer has now slugged twenty-three October home runs, ranking him third all-time behind Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (27).
"There's probably not another person in the world that I'd choose in that moment other than George Springer with his playoff prowess," remarked Blue Jays manager John Schneider.
The Mariners, despite leading the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Wilson commented "there's no question that it hurts" following his club's elimination at their home ballpark, but praised their work throughout the year.
"This is a unique group. Unfortunately that we ended up on the losing end of this game," he remarked.
Toronto's team won the World Series on each of their earlier trips in the early 90s, and will welcome the Los Angeles in the opener on the upcoming Friday.
