Vince Gilligan Shares He Knows How Pluribus Will Conclude... For Now.

The acclaimed writer-producer never anticipated that Pluribus would turn into a cultural phenomenon. “The viewers have been incredible,” he states. “It was unexpected the show being as talked about as it is, and it makes me deliriously happy.”

With the first season of the hit sci-fi show reaching its finale—and Season 2 officially in the works—the creative team reflected on the fan response and whether it will impact the narrative path of Pluribus.

On the Incredible Viewer Reception

Anyone might to get swayed by the widespread acclaim and fan theories regarding Pluribus. The creator is making a conscious effort to avoid both.

“It's like being force fed something incredibly sweet and being laughing uncontrollably,” he says. “It's amazing, but I learn of it anecdotally, and that's intentional. Not once have I searched for my own name online, nor do I ever intend to. It's quite the opposite. It's a rabbit hole I know I would fall into and then I'd be pooping in a five gallon bucket from Home Depot and I'd rarely emerge from my living room.”

In spite of trying to stay away, there’s no escaping the extremely enthusiastic response to the series. The most practical strategy is to acknowledge it humbly and try not to let it alter the course of the show.

“We make no attempt to change the plot,” says Alison Tatlock. “The plot we develop is not changed by audience chatter.”

“We prefer to keep our focus on the work,” Gilligan concludes.

A Pressing Query: Has the creator Have a Plan for the Conclusion of Pluribus?

Considering Gilligan and his team aren't taking cues by fan response, does that mean they have mapped out how Pluribus will finally conclude? The answer is yes… sort of.

“We have some potential directions about where the show might end up,” Gilligan reveals. “however, we remain prepared to throw out a good idea for a superior concept. That has held us in excellent shape on Better Call Saul and on Breaking Bad even before that. We change course when we conceive of something superior and I expect we'll continue doing that.”

Then again, if they hit a wall, executive producer Gordon Smith has a rather amusing idea to serve as a last resort.

“I keep pitching that everything takes place within a snow globe, and that we'll pull back at the end and we're in there,” Smith jokes, “though the idea hasn't gained traction.”

Then again, why mess with the iconic TV endings?

“My dream is Carol to awaken beside Bob Newhart,” Gilligan says with a smile.

Pluribus is streaming now on Apple TV+.
